NEW NOISE SCHOOLS PROGRAM
The New Noise Program forms part of WAM’s Audience Development initiatives targeted at encouraging young people in metropolitan and regional areas to engage with contemporary music. The program is presented in partnership with Healthway and carries the Act Belong Commit message for mental wellness. New Noise has seen the roll-out of a schools program, as well as the development of a youth-run collective regularly coordinating all-ages shows in community spaces.
The schools program sees WA musicians visit metropolitan and regional primary and high schools to perform live, conduct workshops and work through a series of positive, inclusive and engaging work materials.
Since commencing, the program has seen local musicians visit over 50 schools across the state.
NEW NOISE COLLECTIVE
New Noise Collective is a group of young people mentored by WAM and work together to put on all ages live music events.
The collective have successfully delivered live stages at WAM’s flagship event WAMFest presented by Act Belong Commit, as well as the ongoing Library Sessions series which sees monthly live performances from local musicians at the State Library of Western Australia.
GIRLS ROCK! WA
The Girls Rock! program, which originated in the US and is now practised successfully around the globe, is a week-long day camp of instrumental instruction, band rehearsals, workshops, and fun activities designed to empower and inspire aspiring young female, trans, and non-binary musicians.
The program tackles the issue of gender imbalance in the music industry with a focus on the key areas of creativity, positivity, community and empowerment.
